Update
My suspicions were confirmed. I cranked the ole Civic a full 48 hours after the incident and the problem presented itself immediately. Definitely missing on one of the cylinders. I really hope water did not find its way into a cylinder and screw up the valves. I think that would be pushing the laws of probability, even for my bad luck. I will take a look around under the hood this weekend. Maybe water fried a spark plug contact or something in the distributor. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I drove the British Escort back to the scene this afternoon. I had to get back on that horse, so to speak. I did some experimentation on dip driving strategies. I have compiled a few tips for successful dip driving, lest anyone be scared away from the joys of dip driving. I found that entry velocity is the most crucial element. It’s easy to come screaming down the embankment, but one must fight the urge. The force from initial blast of water is what did me in. Ease into the water, like a cold pool on a warm summer’s day. Once all four tires are wet, feel free to give it some gas. Make a wake. Big splashes on either side of the car, as if one was producing a truck commercial. When the water shallows and the embankment begins to raise up, pick up a little speed. Go as fast as you like, really. Extra points for catching air at the top lip.*
*Please note, I cannot be held responsible if said air disengages mechanisms within automobile doors, causing doors to cease functioning. The engine is the important part, and it should be alright.
In other news, I read that Jon Hicks likes Over the Rhine. Should I not be surprised? I have never thought of them as widely known. But they are good so everyone should like them so it works out in the end. Maybe Bald Ben told Jon. I’m not sure. Also, tomorrow I am helping Brett and Hava move into a sweet loft downtown. I’m excited, as it will be much nicer for me to crash in.
Finally, and in conclusion, I would like to add the following:
This ain’t no bike and water lake.
That’s right kids, go home.
