Transit

I flew out of Birmingham at 6:45. For the first time, stars crossed and I sat by a window as I flew over a Western U.S. that was not hidden by cloud cover or darkness. Let me just say the the Rockies are spectacular from the air. Not to mention the wicked red landscapes, made gaunt by canyons, in what I can only assume is Utah.

Tickets into SFO were much cheaper than SJC, so reaching Los Gatos meant the completion a public transit tour de force. The light rail into Campbell finally opened up, so this at least didn’t mean eight different busses. I hate busses.

Ready? AirTrain connection from SFO to the BART station. BART to Millbrae. Caltrain to Santa Clara. VTA bus 10 to the light rail station on Metro. VTA light rail to the Winchester station. VTA bus 48 to Los Gatos. On foot for a bit. Destination at last.

Actually, I realized this as the light rail passed the Diridon Station, but I could have stayed on Caltrain until Diridon, then switched directly to light rail, bypassing the silly number 10 bus. I, being silly, just didn’t realize that light rail connected to Diridon. So next time will be better.

The weather has been overcast and damp and cool, showcasing the verdant hillsides. The sun undercut the clouds just before meeting the horizon, making the bright green leaves shimmer and glow for a few minutes. Beautiful. I miss the landscape here.
